Adel Church PCC
The Old Stables

Renovation and improvements were carried out at the Old Stables, Adel - Grade II listed 18th century building which had been previously converted and extended to provide community facilities for the parishioners of Adel Church.

A successful application was made to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which enabled the project to proceed. Braithwaite & Jackman worked in close conjunction with English Heritage - the monitoring officer for the scheme on behalf of HLF, and a successful working relationship was established for the duration of the project.

Extensive repairs to the former pigeon loft were carried out, as well as full re-pointing of the stonework externally. Improvements included the provision of facilities for the disabled, strengthening to the hayloft floors, and up-grading and re-roofing of the hayloft rooms. A full service was provided, for Architects’ and QS’ services, including the complex issue of obtaining agreement from the VAT office for the majority of the works to be zero rated for VAT purposes.
